Hallery Estate, nestled in the historic village of Haleri, was once the regal seat of the Haleri Kings, the last sovereigns of Coorg before British rule. In 1863, Frank Mangles pioneered coffee cultivation here, introducing European farming techniques that transformed Coorg into a major coffee-growing region. The estate later housed prominent figures like Major John Arthur Graham, Managing Director of Mangles Corporation and other distinguished individuals.
Legacy

In 1968, The Hallery Estate was bought by its present owners, the Buhari Brothers who hail from Kilakarai, southern Tamil Nadu.
Venturing into the coffee business, the two brothers bought Hallery Estate from the Mangles and the Old Kent Estate (originally called Horoor) from the Wrights, another British family well known for coffee cultivation in Coorg. It was decided among them that the younger brother, Syed Abdur Rahman Buhari, would inherit the Hallery Estate and Old Kent would be passed on to the family of the elder brother, Syed Abdul Cader Buhari.
In the following five decades the estates have been enjoyed by the family’s second, third and fourth generations as a cherished holiday home and a treasure chest of fond childhood memories, which they decided to open and share with discerning guests, history enthusiasts and nature lovers.
